THE PROJECT
PNEUMA project intends to create a new back-up system for application in mobile telephone production, which will eliminate the presence of lead-acid batteries traditionally employed to store energy.

The choice of this application is determined by the great number of systems installed in radio-base stations, which guarantee cellular coverage throughout the territory by the standardisation of requirements and the criticality of the performances requested, which require the construction of a particularly efficient, reliable system with precise restrictions on size and cost.

The objective of this project is the development and implementation of a pilot system for laboratory experiments and four demonstrator units which, through the use of stored compressed air, are able to guarantee at least two hours of service to the transmitting apparatus.
This system must satisfy the following criteria:
- eliminate the battery stack in the energy station;
- be cost compatible with battery solutions;
- size of the system (excluding high pressure tank) ≤ 600x600x1000 mm;
- low maintenance;
- plug and play compatible with lead-acid batteries;
- proven technology based.
